Hello Gorgeous,
Spring is here, but it’s not that warm yet. And it’s not quite cold anymore either. It is, however, the perfect weather for layering, and I think I’ve got a few ideas here you might like.
Have you noticed that I use layering techniques in my outfits often? We’ll call it an acquired taste, one gleaned from working in a building with wild temperature swings. The weather in our office is anything but predictable, and layers help me to stay comfortable. And I’d venutre to say they also help to lighten the mood.
My white and blue polka-dot dress shirt peeking through the green shimmer sweater is business-like, pretty, and feminine all at once. In spring, we look for fresher, brighter colors (like the mustard green sweater I’m wearing). Distressed boyfriend jeans don’t look “boyfriend” or “distressed” at all with polished layering on top. They are casual-Friday appropriate, but could also be replaced with a pencil skirt, cropped pants, or full length pants if your office dress code leans more toward business than casual.
Now on to the fun details! Accessories play a very important role here. I layered two necklaces together, each one worn separately looked too stodgy, on the formal side. Together, they are youthful, bubbly, and fun.
You can use up to three or four colors when styling an outfit. Three is best, four at most. Between the top and the bottom, I started with shades of green and blue. Pink was the third major color I went for: bright pink. Feather-boa pink, to be exact.
The feather accents on my shoes are very much on trend right now. And making them yourself, like in my DIY video here, will cost close to nothing.
Instead of a coat or jacket, I added a long vest with a metallic belt on top. The belt plays a double purpose here. This vest has no buttons, so it pulls the fabric in to keep me warm, and it accentuates the waist, cutting down on the accidental bulk created by the layers.
And voila, the layered look is complete!
If you like my post or have any questions, please leave me a comment in the comment section down below. All the links for the clothing items I’m wearing are down below, as well.
And remember not to make layering too much of a science. Have fun with it!
Later Gorgeous!
XOXO,
Anna
