Hey fashionistas,
New York Fashion Week (NYFW) 2017 is going on now, from February 9th through the 16th.
Influencers, bloggers, stylists, buyers, and fashion enthusiasts have gathered in New York City from all over the world. They admire, criticize, take notes, and compile reviews and lookbooks.
And they’re not just here to watch. They are dressed, themselves, in ultra-fashionable outfits. Trying to get noticed. Expressing their take on fashion through personal (wearable) art statements. Feeding their sense of belonging, by being photographed for street style reports. Many of them look like a live installation of Modern art themselves.
I understand where they are coming from. I too love wearing my “art” on my sleeve! I dress to feel like I am making the world a better place, or, at the very least, a prettier place.
Did you know that some fashionistas bring elaborate outfits for every designer show during NYFW? Sometimes, they change several times a day during! I’ve seen it with my own eyes.
I think this year’s NYFW show coverage was exceptional. Modern technology got me a front row seat.
I’ll be publishing a few NYFW 2017 street style interpretations of mine for your viewing pleasure this week. Here is the first one in the series.
It’s my interpretation of the spring 2017 trend of mixing strong colors and textures like pink, green, and metallic. These colors are bold, and combining them can easily get out of balance. But I have a few tips for you to follow, which will guard against that.
First, let’s cover the logistics. Combining all these colors may be a new take on your approach to everyday wear, but it does not mean you need to buy every piece new from scratch. Chances are you have most of those pieces and will need just one or two key additions.
Dig in your closet for a pair of solid-colored pants. (No, black pants don’t count. ) Now find or purchase a multi-colored trench, which has complementary colors to those pants. Or start with the multi-colored trench you already own and add the pants.
In my case, I have a trench that’s perfect to combine with various dark and light shades of pink, and it has dark red color blocks in it, as well. So I paired it with pink pants, a burgundy sweater, and a neck scarf with pink to break up the burgundy and add another shade of green. Plus, a silver belt, gold platform derby shoes (it feels like every other pic from NYFW has them), and a silver purse added the metallic shimmer. Metallics are what make this outfit contemporary and trendy.
I’m sure you’ll find a nice starting piece in your closet, too. Fashion comes back around all the time, so dig deep, and don’t be afraid to experiment! If nothing comes together, drop me a line in the comments below, and I’ll be happy to throw in some ideas for you.
My outfit doesn’t include any recent purchases; I have owned all these items for a while. All you need is to have a goal in mind, and use these instructions to get there. And yes, you can mix gold and silver together. In fact, you should mix gold and silver. That taboo was lifted years ago.
Express yourself, Gorgeous!
Anna
P.S. Since the items I’m wearing are not recent, I found similar items for you to shop my look in the bottom of the post.
Ready to take your confidence to the next level? I can't wait to help you heal, feel and thrive from the inside out!
