Hey, Gorgeous!
How is your summer going? Are you busy with weddings, baby showers, graduations, parties, and more weddings?
I have a gazillion parties to attend, too. And a gazillion outfits to plan for those parties.
For example, I’m planning an outfit for one of the hottest summer parties in Pittsburgh: the annual fundraiser gala, “Party at the Pier.” Like all the self-respecting galas, this party has a theme, and this year it’s “War of the Roses,” which I interpret as a punk-rock-meets-pink kind of party.
It’s not an easy theme to find an outfit for, but I’m not one to shy from a challenge. So I’m going to create not one, but three different looks for this theme. And to make it interesting, I am not going to buy a single thing specifically for the party.
Reuse and reimagine!
It turns out I’ve got the pink side of the theme covered quite well. As I pulled all the pink out of my closet, I was shocked to see in front of me just how many pieces of clothing I own in different shades of pink.
The bright pink peplum dress from H&M is the perfect shade of pink to stand out at a crowded party. Vibrant, fun, and very girly.
But how do I make that dress war-like? For the “war” part of the theme, I need edgy, rough-looking pieces, mostly dark-colored stuff.
My Zara denim jacket with shoulder spikes is good for that! It changes the from girly to edgy. Plus, the color of the jean wash is perfect together with the pink.
Btw, it’s easy to DIY a spiked jacket, too. Get spikes or chains from a local craft store and sew or glue them to your regular denim jacket!
However, the spikes are not enough…
My sheer black peep-toe boots with sparkly appliques from Public Desire add just enough stark contrast, reinforcing the “war” side.
And one biker glove.
It feels so fierce to wear just one glove and a chain-attached double ring on the other hand. And it’s fun, too! With that, I’m ready for the “War of the Roses” gala.
Second and third looks are coming soon…
Stay tuned, Gorgeous!
