I’m in the library today, Gorgeous. Brushing up on the history of fashion. And also on Investing for Dummies.

It’s important to learn. And to do so in style.

Of course, one doesn’t need to look a certain way to be able to absorb information. Disheveled people in stretched pajamas might very well learn more or learn better than the pretty, done-up people, clad in beautiful clothes.

The quality of learning is not determined by our appearance, but rather by our desire to know things.  

But the quality of all of our experiences — including the learning experience — is most certainly decided by our style. The way we look influences how we treat ourselves, and how others treat us.

I had a few intellectual conversations at the library today — smart, interesting people seemed to keep chatting me up. (Yet, I was at the library, where we’re all supposed to be silent.)  

The point I’m trying to make is that no matter how intent we are on judging a book by its insides, we are only human. We can’t help but judge a book by its cover.

How many times have you surmised a person’s intellect, education, and social or economic background by the way they were dressed at that moment? Dozens of times, Gorgeous! Possibly hundreds, depending on how many people you’ve come across today. Take a hard look and recall how it goes down.

Every single time we come across a person, we can’t help but try to catch some clues about them. It’s like we’re wired to form a two-second “executive summary” opinion about a person in front of us, and their style plays a big role in that process. Huge.

You only get one chance to make a first impression.
