Good winter day, gorgeous!
I often get asked how I stay so positive and keep smiling all the time. Oh, I trick myself into it. Every gorgeous day. I’ll share with you how I do it.
Approach life with an understanding and an attitude that you have control over your mood. Help yourself feel bright and cheerful. It’s your duty and your privilege.
If you live in a city with little sunshine like Pittsburgh, PA, or Juneau, AK, or Seattle, WA, you need to consider the influence the weather has on your well-being. Long stretches of gray weather without sunshine affect us negatively. But there are ways to fix the winter-day melancholy by wearing bright colors. Try yellow — the happiest of colors, one of my go-to choices.
This week I’m styling my navy blue velvet flared bottoms three different ways. You’re reading the first of the bell bottoms series. The next two will be published this week, so come back and check them out!

I’m wearing my bell bottoms with black heeled sandals and socks. The weather makes for a great opportunity to take advantage of a timeless fashion trend: socks and open toe shoes in winter, which I wrote a lot about last week.
This time around, I picked platform sandals to make sure my pants are the perfect length. One of the most important things to pay attention to when you shop for pants is the length. I wanted these bell bottoms long, covering my shoes. Whether you’re petite (like me) or six feet tall, you can elongate your legs by wearing long pants over a heel. It’s a useful trick if you want to look long-legged.
When I think of bell bottoms, the 1970s automatically come to mind. The ’70s vibe inspired my ruffled yellow blouse choice, too. I’ve been humming “Dancing Queen” and “The Winner Takes It All” in the shower for the past week. You know the Swedish group ABBA I’m talking about? If you don’t, Google them. Another way to totally lift up your mood is losing it in the shower every morning. I mean straining your vocal cords, gorgeous. Yeah, go all out. Choose your songs and your outfits with a purpose and you’ll feel like you’re on top of the world!
I added a wool fedora and a bucket bag in navy blue to complete the look (links to clothes and accessories are always at the bottom of the post). The ’70s are still trending this season; jump on the wagon! And check out another outfit I posted last fall inspired by this era.

Keep shining, gorgeous! ☀️
